Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of UDA Land East Sdn Bhd Khairul Akmar bin Mohd Tahir is a Project Management and Contract/Commercial Specialist and heads all operation activities in the eastern region of Malaysia as of May 2022.
Khairul Akmar’s portfolio of expertise and experience is wide-ranging. He advises on contractual matters, and heads project feasibility studies, tender negotiation and contracts, budgeting, costing, development concepts, land issues, as well as appraisal of warranties, bonds, insurances and guarantees. He has demonstrated great competence in bringing projects to fruition in a well-structured and proficient manner, and possesses excellent business acumen and skill in project management and dealing with challenges that may arise.
His career started in Central Soil Lab in 1989, where he specialised in soil engineering for road and drainage work in the North South Highway (PLUS) project and in 1995 he joined a Japanese company, Obayashi Corporation as Site QS where he was the Cost/Commercial Manager. He left in 1996 to join TPPT Sdn Bhd. He was Senior Manager for 17 years, from 1996 – 2013, where he was involved in developing an accommodation units for the poor, namely Highrise Housing Development along the LRT Track In Ampang, Selangor, Highrise Condominium and Infrastructure Works in Teluk Kumbar, Penang; Plentong, Johor and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
In 2014, Khairul Akmar had a short one-year stint at UDA Land (Central) Sdn Bhd as Vice President 2 and Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for all operation activities in the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Township Development. He was involved in project planning, implementation and physical construction, sales and marketing activities, and overall company performance. Soon after, he joined Messrs Yong Tai Bhd in 2015 as Vice President, where he was the Contract and Commercial Administration Specialist, advising on all contractual matters in the Mega Development of Performance Art Theater Building and JW Marriot Hotel projects in Melaka.
Khairul Akmar graduated with a Bachelor's (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, UK in 1995. He is a graduate member of Institute of Surveyors Malaysia/Board of QS, and also a Certified Project Management Associate (Level D) at Institute of Project Management Association (IPMA).
